Tectonic significance of a supra-ophiolitic sedimentary cover succession, Unst, Shetland, Scottish Caledonides: insights from the U–Pb–Hf detrital zircon record

چکیده

The tectonic significance of the Muness Phyllite, which overlies Unst–Fetlar ophiolite in Shetland, Scottish Caledonides, is poorly understood. U–Pb analyses detrital zircons show that it was deposited after c . 469 Ma. Early Paleozoic grains have εHf values −0.3 to +12.3 and were probably derived from extension Midland Valley arc. Psammite clasts matrix Phyllite contain Proterozoic Archean with age peaks 1, 1.4–1.5, 1.6–1.7, 1.8–1.9 2.7 Ga. These are consistent ultimate derivation NE Laurentia sources recycled Neoproterozoic East Mainland Succession underlies Mesozoic Shetland Basin. interpreted been soon Grampian I orogeny a successor basin overstepped received detritus arc, ophiolite. It then deformed metamorphosed, at c. 450 Ma during II orogenic event. therefore provides record middle late Ordovician events along sector Laurentian margin following obduction. GEOCHEMISTRY AND TECTONIC SIGNIFICANCE OF BASALTS IN THE DARE-ANAR COMPLEX: EVIDENCE FROM THE KAHNUJ OPHIOLITIC COMPLEX, SOUTHEASTERN, IRAN

The Kahnuj ophiolitic complex, a part of the Jazmurian ophiolitic belt, is located on the western boundary of the Jazmurian depression and is bounded by two major fault systems. There is a well-preserved, ophiolite pseudostratigraphy of early Cretaceous to early Palaeocene age and has a bearing on the Mesozoic development of southeastern part of Iran and adjacent region. The Kahnuj ophiolitic c...

1.8 Billion Years of Detrital Zircon Recycling Calibrates a Refractory Part of Earth’s Sedimentary Cycle

Detrital zircon studies are providing new insights on the evolution of sedimentary basins but the role of sedimentary recycling remains largely undefined. In a broad region of northwestern North America, this contribution traces the pathway of detrital zircon sand grains from Proterozoic sandstones through Phanerozoic strata and argues for multi-stage sedimentary recycling over more than a bill...

NEOGENE TECTONIC EVOLUTION OF THE MAGDALENA SHELF AND SOUTHERN GULF OF CALIFORNIA: INSIGHTS FROM DETRITAL ZIRCON U-Pb AGES FROM THE MAGDALENA FAN AND ADJACENT AREAS

The Magdalena fan is an apparently beheaded submarine depocenter that has figured prominently in Middle to late Miocene reconstructions of Pacific-North American plate interactions. The deposit accumulated rapidly at the base of the continental slope atop newly formed oceanic crust of the Farallon plate from 14.5-13 Ma. Subduction of this crust ceased as the Pacific-Farallon spreading center en...

The mid-Cretaceous transition from basement to cover within sedimentary rocks in eastern New Zealand: evidence from detrital zircon age patterns

Detrital zircon U-Pb ages for 30 Late Jurassic and Cretaceous sandstones from the Eastern Province of eastern New Zealand, combined with previously-published geochronological and palaeontological data, constrain the time of deposition in the Pahau and Waioeka terranes of the Cretaceous accretionary margin of Zealandia, and their adjacent cover strata. The zircon age patterns also constrain poss...

On the new mineral theophrastite, a nickel hydroxide, from Unst, Shetland, Scotland

The new mineral theophrastite, Ni(OH)2 , from Unst, is Mg-bearing and occurs associated with a very poorly crystalline Ni-containing mixed hydroxide of the pyroaurite type and/or zaratite on chromitite. X-ray powder diffraction data show a shift in d spacing toward brucite compared with pure Ni(OH)2. Infrared, thermal, chemical, optical, and physical data are presented together with indexed pow...
